Students must give Fees Commission a chance - Blade Nzimande

Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande says education stakeholders, including students and Vice Chancellors, made declarations during the Higher Education Stakeholders Forum held in Kempton Park today.

Nzimande says the forum declared that there is a need for more funding, but that universities need to resume immediately.

He says the forum also condemned the violence taking place at universities.

Nzimande says the Presidential Fees Commission should be given a chance to conclude its work.

We all agreed that let's give these processes of finding long term solutions to student fees and student funding to be able to complete the processes, in particular the presidential fees commission. And that all those who have got some thing to say must go to the commission.

Meanwhile, University of Cape Town SRC President Rorisang Moseli says the declaration does not mention anything about free education.

He says if students continue to protest tomorrow, then it will another day lost for academic programmes.
