Toss up between Parks Tau and Herman Mashaba for Joburg

Johannesburg residents will today find out who will lead the City after the first council sitting where mayor, chief whip and speaker of the council will be officially sworn in.

Political analyst Prof Lesiba Teffo says it remains uncertain who will win the votes between ANC's Parks Tau and DA's Herman Mashaba.

EFF leader Julius Malema vowed to vote with the DA in hung metros, however he expressed strong reservations about Mashaba as the mayoral candidate.

The outcome hinges on the EFF's vote, and Teffo explains that the EFF have a shakey history when it comes to honouring agreements.

The ANC holds 121 seats; DA has 104 and the EFF has 30.

Teffo says he hopes the EFF will live up to its commitment to allow council members to vote with dignity and respect.

The politics of the stomach seems to be the determinant of how people decide on certain national issues.

Supposing there will be dissenters , Parks Tau may still carry the day.
