DA's Vasco Da Gama voted City of Joburg Speaker

Councillor Vasco Da Gama has been elected as the Speaker of City of Johannesburg council.

Out of the 271 eligible votes, the Democratic Alliance (DA) candidate Da Gama received 145 votes, beating African National Congress's (ANC) Constance Bapele who received 145.

The council's first meeting has been hit by disruptions by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) calling for the arrest of the ANC’s Dan Bovu.
