Herman Mashaba to conduct skills audit on first day in office

City of Joburg newly-elected mayor, Herman Mashaba, is in the process of putting together a team that will work with him to improve the performance of the public service.

The businessman-turned-politician for the Democratic Alliance (DA) was elected as the executive mayor on Monday, toppling the African National Congress' Parks Tau from his position. He received 144 council votes while Tau receives 125 votes.

The official opposition party formed coalitions with various opposition parties to gain majority votes in Nelson Mandela Bay, City of Joburg and City of Tshwane, prompting the ANC to insrospect in a four-day meeting.

He sent his condolences to the ANC Councillor who passed out and died last night at the Joburg City Hall as voting took place.

We need a professional public service, people who wants to serve society... We are going to start moving people around if they are in the wrong job.
