It has been smooth sailing so far in the Germiston council chambers for the inaugural sitting where the Ekurhuleni Mayor, Chief Whip and Speaker of council will be officially sworn in.
EWN's Clement Manyathela reports that process of swearing in councillors has moved relatively faster than in Joburg, and the electing of the Speaker will get underway shortly.
The voting process will begin for nominees and will likely set the tone for both mayor and chief whip, explains Manyathela.
ANC's mayoral candidate Mzwandile Masina has nominated Patricia Khumalo for position of Speaker, while the DA's Ghaleb Cachalia nominates Shadow Shabangu.
But party agents have debated over the IEC's rule on casting secret ballots, while the presiding officer has ruled that votes will be secret.

Meanwhile, outgoing Ekurhuleni Mayor Mondli Gugubele, says the ANC has managed to clinch the support of smaller parties such the AIC.
The ANC polled has got 109 seats; the DA took 77 seats and the EFF 25 (out of a total of 224 seats).
