'Stay away from Pravin, let him do his work', says Mathews Phosa

African National Congress (ANC) stalwart, Dr Mathews Phosa has defended Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and called him a man of integrity and honour.

The former ANC Treasury-General was responding to the tug of war between Gordhan and Hawks, who have summoned him for a warning statement regarding the alleged SA Revenue Services (SARS) rogue unit. However, Gordhan said he won't present himself to the investigative unit.

Speaking to 702's John Robbie, Phosa defended him strongly, saying that he should be left to delivering the Medium Term Budget Speech and avoiding a downgrade of the country's economy by internation ratings agencies.

The former Premier of Mpumalanga was recently bestowed with the African Women Leadership Organisation 'Man of the Year Award' for his work in advocating for the participation of women in the economy.

Listen to the interview below:

He's a man of integrity, a man of honour... My humble words would be to leave Pravin to do the people's business

Mathews Phosa, ANC stalwart

South Africans should stand up against this abuse of power. The Hawks will face the same fate as Scorpions if they allow themselves to be politicised.

Mathews Phosa, ANC stalwart

Phosa said the decline of support for the ANC at the recent local government elections are indicative of the electorate's unhappiness with the organisation.

If you sneer at people, if you don't listen to the people, the masses will punish you. And this is what happened here.
