Judge Kriegler to challenge the "persecution" of Gordhan in court

Former Concourt Judge Johann Kriegler has been outside the headquarters of the Hawks this morning expressing his unhappiness at the treatment Gordhan is receiving. He joins The Midday Report's Stephen Grootes on the line.

I'm not supporting the Finance Minister, I'm supporting law and order, I'm supporting the rule of law.

This is an attempt at harassment and intimidation.

Kriegler says if there is a charge, then let the Hawks bring it.

I am satisfied that there isn't an inkling of a charge. I have see the papers, I've studied the matter for months.

He says he does not wish to speculate on the political motives behind this adding that he did not know who is responsible.

It is being dealt with at the moment in a ham-handed intimidating fashion on evidence that does not exist, and that which does exist does not establish any wrong-doing on the part of the Minister.

Judge Kriegler says they will take the persecution of Gordhan to court

We are going to certainly consider bringing proceedings to have the whole question of persecution of the Minister and Pillay, van Loggerenberg et al properly aired in court. They have never ever been given a fair opportunity to state their case.
