Jason Rohde's bail application postponed until next week

The case of Sotheby's property boss Jason Rohde, accused of murdering his wife at the Spier Wine Estate, was back in court today.

EWN reporter Shamiela Fisher was at the Stellenbosch Magistrate's court, where Rohde's defence team were once again arguing for him to be released on bail.

The State clarified that this was not yet a bail hearing, as they were still processing and investigating forensic evidence relating to blood splatter, DNA analysis and cell phone data.

They argued this would only be wound up by Tuesday, and then a bail amount could be worked out.

The defence team led by Advocate Peter Mihalik, stated that their private pathologist argued the death was suicide. But prosecution say the victim died of manual strangulation and there is pathology consistent with smothering.

The defence were unhappy that their client did not get bail today, saying he has cooperated fully with the police from the get go and is no flight risk.

Jason Rohde will be spending the weekend in jail.

He doesn't really seem to be phased by all the media attention. He walked into the dock staring straight ahead.
