Mother posts video of son's assault at school

A mother posted a video showing her son being assaulted at school on social media. The video has sparked a conversation around the safety of children at school.

The incident took place at Fairbairn College in Goodwood. The video shows a 14-year-old boy lying on the ground as a group of learners appear to be kicking him.

According to the mother, when she went back to the school to question the incident, she was reportedly told that “they couldn’t guarantee her son’s safety”.

Paddy Atwell, WCED's Director of Communications confirmed that one of the boy's mother did report the matter to the district office and the matter is currently under investigation.

He says the principal said that he would submit a report after speaking to all parties involved and that a disciplinary process would be considered.

Atwell also said that they will be consulting the school to offer support in dealing with issues of violence and bullying appropriately.
