Eskom insists it is cooperating with Treasury over Tegeta

Eskom insists that it is cooperating with Treasury in giving information about its contractual relationship with Tegeta. This is despite Treasury's statement today that Eskom has not provided requested information.

Matshela Koko, Eskom's Group Executive for Generation, spoke to 702's Xolani Gwala to speak about the differences between Eskom and Treasury.

We have cooperated. We have engaged with them. We have done all we have been able to do to meet National Treasury

Matshela Koko, Eskom's Group Executive for Generation

Koko says that Eskom responded to the latest report from Treasury, dated 17 August, and made the letter public.

We have said to them we will give you this information after it comes back from our Board. They have not said to us that they are unhappy about that. That's our gripe

On CapeTalk, Business Day's Carol Paton spoke to John Maytham to dissect the latest blows between Treasury and Eskom.

I'm just so relieved to see this strong statement coming from Treasury.

Carol Paton, Business Day

Paton says Treasury are demanding this information is a positive step.

For so long now Eskom has been like a dark box which we can't see into.

Carol Paton, Business Day

She says Eskom should now provide the generated payments to Tegeta so that everyone can see all was above board.

Eskom keeps all it's coal contracts so secret, you can never know what is going on....always saying it's 'commercially sensitive'.

Carol Paton, Business Day

Paton says they use that smokescreen to do almost anything they like.

The opportunity to actually find out a little bit about what is going on at Eskom, has come through this treasury investigation.

Carol Paton, Business Day

The timing has come on the back of the Pravin Gordhan's summons to the Hawks last week, and Paton says this is the action of a treasury that just is not going away, no matter what they do to the boss.

She says this statement today was the Treasury fighting back.

She says in general she senses that things are starting to unravel.

This is the real reason Jacob Zuma wants to get rid of Pravin Gordhan, so that he can stop having these worrisome investigations.
