Single dad gets world’s admiration for his dedication towards daughter

In raising his three-year-old daughter Izzy, Greg Wickherst discovered that doing her hair would prove to be a great challenge for him, so he decided to enlist some help.

Determined to overcome his styling shortcomings, Wickherst recruited the expertise of cosmetology students at IntelliTec College, where he works in Colorado in the United States.

After several tutorial sessions from cosmetology students, Wickherst learnt how to do his daughter’s hair.

He describes his daughter as a ‘little firecracker’ with a lot of humour and personality:

She can be shy at first, but give her about two or three minutes - she’ll be talking your ear off. And she’s smart - smart as a whip!

Maintaining Izzy’s hair wasn't much of a challenge for Wickherst when she was younger, as it was much shorter at the time. The trouble started as her hair started growing longer; this is when tying it in a ponytail started to become an obstacle for the single father.

Wickherst said he had watched the video below and, after a failed attempt at mimicking this, resolved to getting expert help.

Wickherst practised on a mannequin and learnt not only how to tie a ponytail and bun, but also how to plait a fish braid and a French braid as well. When he went home to experiment on his daughter’s hair, he was pleasantly surprised with the results:

I put a bow in her hair, and she was so proud to wear that bow.

Since then, he has started to develop his own unique hairstyles, embellished with ribbons and tinsel.

Wickherst says that he will be starting a tutorial class of his own and plans to share his skills with other fathers.
