Ramaphosa to face tough questions in Parliament

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa will be answering questions for the first time since the local government elections from Members of Parliament in the National Assembly this afternoon.

EWN Parliamentary correspondent, Gaye Davis, talks to Charlotte Kilbane, standing in for Stephen Grootes on The Midday Report, about what to expect.

Davis says none of the questions on the Order Paper relate to the political battles being played out currently between the Treasury and State Owned Enterprises.

She says the question of the new SAA Board and the possible reappointment of controversial Dudu Myeni is on the cards. Also, questions about some international funding agencies unwillingness to continue funding SOEs will be asked.

There was no Post-Cabinet Briefing today, says Davis, and so there is less clarity on the issues to be raised.

The Deputy president will be answering a range of questions this afternoon, but most could be described as 'sweetheart questions' from the ANC.

She says these relate to the Aids Conference that was held in Durban in July and Ramaphosa's Sadec facilitation work bringing Swaziland back to stability.

Mmusi Maimane the leader of the Democratic Alliance will be raising questions about whether government will prioritise the establishment of a National Venture Capital Fund. He is also going to focus on questions around Cabinet Minister absenteeism from the House, says Davis.

She says yesterday there were a number of empty seats in the national Assembly and Maimane plans to find out what Ramaphosa is going to do to ensure Ministers meet their obligations to Parliament.

Davis says this time the EFF will be in Ramaphosa's Q&A session, and it remains to see what will transpire this afternoon.
