SpaceX and Facebook collaboration goes up in smoke

Facebook has to go back to the drawing board after a rocket built by SpaceX, exploded on a routine unmanned test. SpaceX is South African-born Elon Musk's company.

Duncan Macleod, Tech Central editor, spoke to Charlotte Kilbane who was standing in for Stephen Grootes on The Midday Report.

Facebook agreed to purchase time on this satellite to provide internet to Sub Saharan Africa. Mark Zuckerberg identified Africa as the next big growth opportunity.

Mark Zuckerberg was in east Africa at the time and his visit was to coincide with this satellite launch which intended to provide subsidised internet access.
