You might not know what the Millennial Whoop is but you have definitely heard it

Earlier this month, in a blog post, musician Patrick Metzer wrote about a musical sequence that consists of repeating the fifth and 3rd notes in a major scale to create a call that is easy to sing and easy to recognise.

It has been used in music for a long time, although he makes a case that it is very popular right now, and has been commonly used for the last 10 years.

Quartz created a compilation of some of the tracks to illustrate it.

Once you are aware of it, you will realise that the "Millennial Whoop" is everywhere at the moment.
