MK vets force #OccupyLuthuliHouse demonstrators away

It appears organisers of the #OccupyLuthuliHouse campaign have abandoned the plan to stage a sit-in at the ANC's headquarters and are now marching towards the CBD.

The group is calling for the immediate resignation of President Jacob Zuma and the entire ANC National Executive Committee (NEC) and had planned to hand over a memorandum of demands to ANC Secretary General Gwede Mnatashe.

Demonstrators, started gathering at Beyers Naude Square in the Johannesburg CBD but were blocked from making their way to Luthuli House by ANC supporters and the Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans' Association (MKMVA).

EWN's Clement Manyathela says the military ring confirmed that it had mobilised supporters under the campaign #DefendLuthuliHouse.

There has been a strong police presence since early this morning.

Confrontation is imminent between the two opposing groups, both clad in ANC regalia, as they move further away from police presence, explains Manyathela.

Meanwhile, the ANC Youth League claims that the #OccupyLuthuliHouse campaign is funded by EFF's Dali Mpofu who allegedly received money from international funders.

At the same time, the ANC's Khusela Sangoni says that there are internal party processes for ANC members to raise their grievances, including thorough engagement within the structures.
