Prof Habib pleads with students to let academic programme continue

Prof Adam Habib, Vice Chancellor at Wits University has pleaded with the Wits university students not to compromise the 2016 academic programme. He says 36 000 lives are at stake.

We think its a pity that this happening. We have said to the student leadership that we cannot deliver free education.

Habib says if students want to continue with the protests they are at liberty to do so but pleaded with them to let those that want to continue with their studies not be disrupted.

The National chairperson of the EFF, Dali Mpofu says he was called in to try and intervene in the situation at Wits. He has been involved with the university representing the students with the poll organised by the university management.

We are hoping to prevent the catastrophe and we are hoping that violence would stop from both sides.

Mpofu says what is important right now is that the situation is contained. He says he has witnessed the violence that is currently going on at Wits.
