New Public Protector candidate Busisiwe Mkhwebane is Zuma's spy says DA

Democratic Alliance (DA) says it does not support new Public Protector candidate, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, who the party believes is a spy close to President Jacob Zuma.

Mkhwebane is likely to be nominated by the National Assembly to replace Thuli Madonsela, as she was recommended by the ad hoc committee tasked with finding the new Public Protector.

DA Member of Parliament (MP) Glynnis Breytenbach says Mkhwebaneis is less qualified when compared to the other four candidates.

Breytenbach says Mkhwebane couldn't explain why she left her job at the Department of Home Affairs to work for the State Security Agency (SSA).

We have more than one reliable source.

Glynnis Breytenbach, DA MP

We raised this during the committee, interview, deliberations of the committee. It's nothing new. We were concerned about her positions, her closeness to State Security.

Glynnis Breytenbach, DA MP

Mkhwebane has worked at the Department of Home Affairs as the director. She is also former senior investigator at the Office of the Public Protector and a former analyst for the State Security Agency.
