Mkhwebane, Zwane and Gordhan due to take the hot seat in Parly

The DA says reliable sources have information that proves proposed Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane is a spy with close ties to President Jacob Zuma, but will not divulge any evidence with media.

The ad hoc committee to appoint a new Public Protector saw all the parties, except the DA, voting to nominate Mkwebane to replace Thuli Madonsela.

The National Assembly will today vote on SA's new Public Protector, amid concerns over whether or not Mkhwebane is a spy.

EWN's Parliamentary correspondent Gaye Davis reports that Mkhwebane has denied the claims she worked for the State Security Agency (SSA) during her four-year long work in China.

They're essentially saying that while she was Director of Refugee Affairs attached to the Embassy in China, she was actually on State Security's payroll.

Davis says the DA will most likely make a declaration in Parliament, explaining why the party will not support Mkhwebane's nomination.

60% of the 400 Members of Parliament (MPs) will have to endorse her candidacy in order for her to officially take the reigns.

At the same time, Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane will also face tough questions from MPs after his controversial statement that the four major banks will face a judicial inquiry for cutting ties with the Guptas.

Zwane will be asked whether he will resign in light of the statement he made last week.

Meanwhile, ANC Parlimentary spokesperson Moloto Mothapo says the DA has engaged in malicious defamation of character by casting aspersions on Mkhwebane.
