Tshwane Mayor rejects luxury wheels and other perks

Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga has refused to accept 10 BMW's bought for him and and senior officials in his municipality.

Msimanga has sent the luxury vehicles, which were bought by his predecessors, to the Tshwane Metro Police Department's anti-hijack unit.

The newly elected DA mayor has also banned the purchase or leasing of luxury vehicles.

Msimanga’s spokesperson, Matthew Gerstner, says that he has decided to cut down on unnecessary perks for politicians.

Gerstner says Msimanga discovered that public money had been used by previous leaders of the municipality to buy luxury BMW vehicles for politicians.

He said no more procurement of luxury vehicles. He came in and discovered a fleet of brand new luxury vehicles that had been brought by the previous ANC administration.

According to Gerstner, Msimanga will gradually make the necessary cuts to save money and deliver services in the metro.
