The inter-ministerial committee on drought has raised concerns that there may not be enough water during the planting season this year.
The task team includes Agriculture Minister Senzeni Zokwana, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Des Van Rooyen and Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane.
Dam levels, nationally, are at their lowest in years. One of the figures that was mentioned during the briefing is that the national average dam storage is at 53% of full supply, and that is in contrast with the 72% at the same time last year.— Gaye Davis, EWN reporter
However, government says the water shortages cannot be declared a disaster yet. According to EWN reporter, Gaye Davis, Mokonyane emphasised the importance of saving water.
