Ramaphosa calls for stability within SA govt

Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa has pleaded with all sectors of government to restore stability in the country's leadership.

Ramaphosa was addressing an audience at the 21st annual Summit of the National Economic Development and Labour Council (Nedlac) in Boksburg.

He says citizens want stable leadership, not a state that appears to have waged a war against itself, reports EWN's Dineo Bendile.

Ramaphosa says government can only exist if there’s better collaboration within its ranks, and warned against the impact of reckless statements made by government officials.

He says that if government can't show confidence and stability, then we can't expect the same from society and the labour environment.

This comes amid a political spotlight which has been on Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan and Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane this week.

He says there is an impression being made that the state is at war with itself and this is minimising confidence from members of the public.

According to Ramaphosa, South Africa needs a jobs summit to discuss a partnership between government and labour and improve the economic situation in the country.

The deputy president says the country needs to invest in innovative ways of creating employment, Bendile explains.
