Free State ANC tell members to back down on early elective conference call

The Free State ANC says the ruling party should not rush into an early elective conference, following pressure from some branches.

We believe the membership of the ANC must retreat back and ensure that they revive their loyalty to the ANC.

Thabo Meeko, Spokesperson for Free State ANC

Protests erupted at Luthuli House on Monday with some ANC members calling for immediate resignation of President Jacob Zuma and the entire ANC National Executive Committee (NEC).

Free State ANC spokesperson Thabo Meeko says the priority should be working together to re-position the ANC amid what he calls political challenges.

The province is calling for calm. It's calling for the ANC membership (including leadership and veterans) to retreat and focus.

He says that many liberation movements have faced crisis-points throughout history, but the ANC will not be derailed.

We believe the ANC movement is still on the right track and is capable of recovering.

According to Meeko, the election outcomes and other national issues facing the ANC are both subjective and objective.

Free State ANC chairperson Ace Magashule yesterday said the Zuma is going nowhere and that the national leadership will remain in office until the end of their term in December 2017.

Our ANC needs time to prepare for the conference, it's not a soccer team club meeting.

Thabo Meeko, Spokesperson for Free State ANC

Meeko explains that an early elective conference has the potential to both build and destroy the ruling party, adding that change of leadership will not resolve the ANC's issues.
