Myeni's son linked to Prasa's R51bn tender deal - reports

Weekend reports have linked SAA chair Dudu Myeni's son, Thalente, to Prasa's R51 billion contract for new passenger carriages.

It's reported that he and other politically-connected business tycoons have cashed in on their shares in the major tender before a single new train has been built in the country.

According to News24, the tender contract was awarded in 2012 and the trail of shareholding structures led back to Thalente and other ANC affiliates.

News24's Pieter-Louis Myburgh explains that Prasa claimed to have awarded the BEE stake to role players in the rail industry.

However, evidence shows that individuals like Thalente were awarded BEE stakes despite having no experience in the industry.

But there were a bunch of individuals who showed very little evidence of having a footprint in the rail industry.

Pieter-Louis Myburgh, Investigative reporter at News24

Myburgh says that it remains unclear whether due process was followed in the awarding of the contracts.
