While South Africa and the United States of America continue to enjoy good relations, US ambassador Patrick Gaspard has exceeded his role far beyond that of any foreign state official.

While focusing his energy on the Mandela Washington Fellows program, raising awareness on HIV/Aids and contributing towards developing the arts, Gaspard has woven himself into South Africa's daily conversations.

702/Cape Talk's Eusebius McKaiser spoke to the long-serving civil servant who performs his ambassadorial duties with awe-inspiring zeal.

He spoke highly of US President Barack Obama, who's milestones include reducing the unemployment rate from 11% to under 5%, boosting automobile industry, and advancing black people's rights.
