25 years after Madiba release - call to promote non-racialism
EWN's Emily Corke on this story: as the country marks 25 years since the release of former president Nelson Mandela from prison, anti-apartheid icon Ahmed Kathrada says the recent racism reported in the media must stop. Together with struggle stalwart Laloo Chiba, the former Robben Island prisoner says South Africans must use today to renew the fight against racism, following a number of reports of xenophobic and racist attacks. Kathrada spent 26 years in jail for his fight against racial oppression together with Mandela, who served 27 years. Spokesperson for the Ahmed Kathrada foundation Zaakirah Vadi says South Africans must celebrate today by staying true to the ideals Madiba fought for: “Both Kathrada and Laloo Chiba emphasised that the key to addressing racism is molding the lives of young people so that they can become agents of non-racialism."

There could be another volatile showdown on Thursday if Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema makes good on his threat to disrupt the president's speech.

Tired of negativity and whining, the outspoken Bezuidenhout has started a Twitter campaign called #CommitYourSelfie where she urges her followers to post pictures of themselves posing with messages against corruption in government.
