Zuma placed incompetent leaders in watchdog institutions - Sipho Pityana

AngloGold Ashanti Chairman Sipho Pityana who recently spoke out against Jacob Zuma, now says the President has damaged the country by failing to uphold the Constitution and stamp out corruption.

Pityana says Zuma has put his own people in institutions that are meant to be watchdogs of South Africa's constitutional democracy.

He has done everything in his power to make sure that we don't have appropriate people to occupy roles that ensure that those institutions are led properly to ensure that they play their role.

He has crippled the functioning of the National Prosecuting Authority.

He has tried to undermine the independence of the judiciary by extending the term of office of the chief justice illegally.

Pityana made his first public call for Zuma to resign at the funeral of Former Minister of Sports Makhenkesi Stofile.

He says "the elephant in the room is a President who lacks integrity and who is dishonest; a President whose word does not count".
