Academic programmes at Wits University have been suspended until Monday due to students protests for free decolonised education.
A general assembly, which will include university leaders, students, parents and members of civil society, will be held on Friday.
Senior leadership have met with the students while preparing for the national assembly on Friday.
Prof. Pitika Ntuli, who is part of the mediating team at Wits, says there are now different groups led by seniour leaders.
He says the aim to find solutions support students in their cause for free education and to help save 2016 academic year.
The university has agreed to withdraw the police to the perimeter of the university’s campuses.
