Two SABC board members step down, ANC calls for inquiry

Krish Naidoo and Vusi Mavuso announced that they are resigning from the SABC board before Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Communications on Wednesday.

The SABC board appeared before the committee, along with Hlaudi Motsoeneng, who was re-appointed head corporate affairs - despite court findings that he was unfit.

Naidoo and Mavuso said that they can no longer be associated with irrational decisions taken by public broadcaster, reports EWN's Kevin Brandt.

They say the situation at the SABC is embarrassing to be associated with. They feel the reappointment of Hlaudi Motsoeneng, is absolutely wrong.

The pair also distanced themselves from the SABC board's highly-criticised presentation which was delivered in Parliament today, saying they played no part in it.

Brandt explains that both the ANC and opposition MPs have expressed their desire for the current SABC board to be dissolved.

Both ANC secretary-general Gwede Mantashe and ANC chief whip Jackson Mthembu feel the board isn't fit and feel the matter should be taken on review by the committee.

The ANC members also took to this platform calling for this board to be disbanded as well as the axing of Motsoeneng.
