Dramatic photos of lightning strikes gets early morning twitter abuzz

It took a photo gallery of lightning strikes over Joburg to get Koketso and #EarlyBreakfast trending on twitter this morning.

The gallery, published recently in the Huffington Post, contains 11 dramatic photos of lightning over the skies in Johannesburg.

The photos were taken during Summer thunderstorms by 46 year old local real estate agent, Alexius van der Westhuizen.

I use a remote and keep the shutter open for around four seconds or until I get a strike. Only one out of about every four photos will have a strike in it.

I shoot hundreds of pictures during a storm. I select the most interesting strikes, or those that complement each other, to import into the computer program, The results are incredible images that show the fearsome power of nature.

The subject matter was especially pertinent to many Joburgers. The City was treated to a lightning show before soaking rains set in last night.
