Talent, creativity and innovation - Design Indaba 2015

Photo: Speaker, creative Stanley Hainsworth presents his session at the Design Indaba 2015. 10 and 5.

Launched in 1995, the Design Indaba is an internationally acclaimed event that brings together some of the world's top creatives.

This year, the event takes place at the Cape Town Convention Centre incorporating multicultural experiences. Each year the event hosts more than 40 speakers and over 4 000 delegates.

Has the Indaba contributed to South African design?

Founder of the event, Ravi Naidoo says that while the Indaba has grown from a conference to include an expo and a music festival South African corporates need to incorporate more design and innovation.

It's the last day of the design spectacular, so be sure to pop in and catch some of the amazing events still to come at the Design Indaba 2015.

What you can look forward to at the Design Indaba this weekend:

Stanley Hainsworth: Tether

Stanley Hainsworth is the founder and chief creative officer of Tether.

Tether is a creative, cross-disciplinary brand and design studio, based in the United States. He's flexed his muscles as Creative-In-Chief for brands such as Nike, Lego and Starbucks.

Speaking to Pippa on Cape Talk, Hainsworth says he learned the art of storytelling in his acting days, and shares that creating a brand is about making the right "brand story" for people to relate to.

“A brand is like a person, it has a personality”.

You can catch Hainsworth share his insights at the Design Indaba this weekend.

Casey Neistat: Filmmaker

Casey Neistat is an American filmmaker whose wildly popular YouTube videos are redefining the industry. Casey first gained international fame in 2003, for a three-minute film titled, iPod's Dirty Secret, which criticised Apple's lack of a battery replacement programme for the iPod.

The film received international media exposure and brought broad attention to Apple's battery replacement policy. Today he has three YouTube channels with more than 250 videos, which have accumulated over 100 million views.

Casey's focus at his Design Indaba presentation focused on film making being the most accessible art form today.

Sindiso Khumalo: Textile Designer

Sindiso Khumalo is a Botswana born textile designer who is currently living in London.

Khumalo studied architecture at the University of Cape Town before moving to London to work in the offices of architect David Adjaye.

In February 2012, Sindiso launched her label and was listed as a finalist in the ELLE Rising Star competition.

The Sindiso Khumalo label focuses on sustainable contemporary textiles inspired by the Zulu and Ndebele culture.

Khumalo's "Aretha Dress" was nominated as one of SA's Most Beautiful Objects at the 2013 Design Indaba.
