Records fly in Sydney as AB de Villiers smash the Windies to smithereens

AB de Villiers, the best batsman in the universe, scored 162 from 66 balls against a West Indies attack made to look toothless by what can only be described as yet another freakish batting performance.

Records galore!

  • AB de Villiers scored the fastest 150 in ODI history and eventually ended not out on 162 (off 66 balls).

  • AB’s 100 off 52 deliveries was the fastest century by a South African and the second fastest in a World Cup match.

  • AB needed only 12 balls to move his total from 100 to 150.

  • AB’s 34 runs in the 48th over off Jason Holder were the second most ever scored in a World Cup over.

  • AB holds the record for the fastest 50, the fastest 100 and the fastest 150 in ODI cricket (all made against the Windies).

  • The 134 run partnership between AB de Villiers and Rilee Rossouw is a record for the fourth wicket by South Africa in a World Cup match.

  • 408 is the highest team total ever scored in Australia.

  • 408 is the second highest team total ever in a World Cup.

  • 408 is also the highest team total ever in a World Cup match for South Africa.

  • South Africa scored 261 in the last 20 overs at 13.05 runs per over.

It's been an amazing couple of years, performance-wise. I never like to get ahead of myself and still believe I can win every time I play. I keep working hard on my game, I try and keep my feet on the ground - that's very important when you're playing professional sports and for any professional career in that matter. It's a game of chess out there - if he tries to double-bluff me, I double-bluff him!
