SARS accuses former spokesman of "ulterior motives"

If former SARS employee, Adrian Lackay's lawyers have their way they could submit documents to the CCMA (Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration) lifting the lid on the controversial SARS rogue unit.

EWN reporter Gia Nicolaides spoke to John Robbie about the start of Lackay's case at the CCMA on Monday. Lackay is maintaining constructive dismissal, SARS is saying he chose to leave voluntarily. Lackay alleges that Sars commissioner, Tom Moyane, believed wrongly that the so-called "Rogue Unit" was unlawful.

Lackay's lawyers have documents that contain information on the Rogue Unit and SARS will bring an application to deem these documents inadmissible.

SARS has accused Lackay of ulterior motives, saying he is using his new book (about the Rogue Unit) to clear his name.

These documents have implications for Finance Minister, Pravin Gordhan, who previously headed up the revenue service. The CCMA case will resume in two weeks. Listen here to Nicolaides explain to John Robbie how 55 Sars employees were "purged" when Moyane took over.
