The docket number in Gordhan's case raises suspicions - Marianne Thamm

A report in the Daily Maverick suggests that the case against Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan appeared to have been closed at some point and was later re-opened.

Marianne Thamm, Daily Maverick Assistant Editor says she noticed a case number on top of the papers that the NPA presented and decided to take a closer look.

She discovered that it was the case number that refers to a docket opened in May 2015 by Tom Moyane at Brooklyn police station. The case was about the alleged Rogue Unit and its operations.

Thamm says the case was then closed in December 2015 and when the Hawks sent Finance Minister a list of 27 questions to answer the case remained closed.

It is very strange that this case would be resuscitated and revived at this particular point.

Marianne Thamm, Associate Editor of The Daily Maverick

I think they are just using this case number as some kind of inconvenient hook to continue with what everybody seems to be feeling and quite obviously its a political witch hunt.

Marianne Thamm, Associate Editor of The Daily Maverick

The case against Gordhan was reopened on May 2016 and was later transferred to the Crime Intelligent Unit after Berning Ntlemeza was appointed as Hawks boss, says Thamm.
