Pollen might not be the only trigger for hay fever

Dr Mike Levin, allergy advisor to Pharma Dynamics says for decades hay fever sufferers have been led to believe that their condition is brought on by the amount of pollen in the air, but there are a host of other triggers too.

However, Levin says we need to acknowledge that pollen does cause the acute episodes of hay fever that occurs during the spring season.

Allergic Rhinitis (commonly called Hay Fever) is a condition which affects approximately 30% of South Africans and it occurs all year long but pollen might not be the main culprit behind your nasal allergy misery, says Dr Levin.

He listed house dust mites as the most common cause of Allergic Rhinitis saying this form of energy is much more severe than hay fever because the symptoms are worse.

If pollen is a problem there is little you can do but if house dust mites is the problem we advise people to mop rather than sweeping.
