EFF and Gordhan undermined by NPA - CASAC

Lawson Naidoo, executive secretary of the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (Casac) says the actions of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is a "show of force by the State".

Naidoo was referring to the summons issued to Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan this week for fraud charges and the summons issued to EFF leader Julius Malema an hour into his media briefing for inciting people to commit crime. Gordhan, together with former SARS commissioner, Oupa Magashula, are facing fraud charges along with ex SARS employee, Ivan Pillay. Pillay was granted an early pension payout six years ago, approved by Gordhan and Magashula.

Malema was informed that two police officers were waiting to issue summons on him at his media briefing on Thursday. Malema explained that the charges relate to a him speaking at the University of the Free State in 2014.

The manner is which things are being done, the press conference announcing the Gordhan summons... the summons by the police officers (Malema).. There are other ways to do this that are less sensationalised.
