The Sanlam Homemade Contemporary Fair becomes 'more pan African'

Afternoon Drive show is broadcasting live from the 7th Sanlam Handmade Contemporary Fair in Hyde Park with new entrepreneurs and artists.

This year's theme 'Well Made in Africa'. The fair features artists from all over the continent.

Director of Artlogic, organisers of the Sanlam Homemade Contemporary Fair, Mandla Sibeko, says the focus of the fair is to become more African.

For people who are interested in coming here, I think this is probably the most exciting window that you can look through South Africa. They celebrate what is exciting about new South Africa.

Mandla Sibeko, director of Artlogic

Sibeko says designers use the material that is African, and use Africa's bright famous colours.

We had a special guest from Wallpaper.com who said as Europeans they are tired of seeing the same designs, and they are looking to Africa for inspiration.

Head of Marketing at Sanlam Investments, Robert Thompson, says all the African exhibitors at the Fair have been outstanding.

In terms of entrepreneurship that we would like to drive, and we see that as a growth factor in terms of our strategy, it is encouraging that the market is taking to these exhibitors. And that this fair is important for them.

Robert Thompson, head of Sanlam Investments

The fair started yesterday and ends on Sunday, 16 October.
