More senior ANC members to come out against Zuma - political analyst

Journalist and political analyst Karima Brown says more members of the Cabinet and National Executive Committee (NEC) will come out in defence of Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

Some senior African National Congress (ANC) politicians, including ANC NEC member Zweli Mkhize and Chief Whip Jackson Mthembu, have backed Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.

Brown says the ANC can be 'described as completely factionalised' at moment.

I think there is a change that is happening, perhaps not fast enough to unseat President Jacob Zuma. But certainly significant enough to make him considerably less stronger and lot weaker and more vulnerable than three months ago.

Karima Brown, journalist and political analyst

Gordhan will appear in court in November on fraud charges laid by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) against him.

Many analysts have described the charges as an attempt to fire him in order to take control of the National Treasury.
