'State capture' report was not meant to be handed over to Mkhwebane - DA

Democratic Alliance (DA) wants National Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbete to table the full letter sent by former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela on what should happen with the report into state capture.

DA Chief Whip John Steenhuisen says 'there seems to be a fundamental misunderstanding on what to do with the report'.

Our understanding is that the outgoing Public Protector Thuli Madonsela made it very clear that the report has to remain with the Speaker for safe keeping. It was not meant to be handed over to her successor upon her assuming office. If that was the case it could have been left to the Public Protector's safe.

Steenhuisen says Madonsela wanted the report to be kept until the court decides on interdicts brought by Cogta Minister Des Van Rooyen and President Jacob Zuma.
