Donald Trump and the dangers of dismissing "locker-room talk"

Where does one draw the line between proverbial "locker-room talk" and objectifying women?

This was the question posed by clinical sexologist Dre Eve after the controversial clip of Donald Trump using sexually aggressive language about women.

The Republican nominee was caught on tape engaging in misogynistic banter with Billy Bush, who has since been axed as the presenter of NBC’s Today Show.

Trump bragged about groping women and was recorded crudely saying that he grabbed them by the genitals.

Here's the leaked clip from Trump's Access Hollywood TV Show interview in 2005:

Dr Eve explains that there are problematic masculinities which exist that, through their discussions about women, may perpetuate rape culture and dehumanise women.

Many have dismissed Trump's remarks as so-called "locker room talk", in an tempt to justify and normalise boasting about sexual prowess, predation and violence.

Dr Eve says Billy Bush is an example of how the bystander effect can enable sexism and misogyny, simultaneously absolving perpetrator's of accountability.

Billy Bush is the 'wingman' and he's facilitating it. I think that that's what a lot of men do.... They're on the sidelines encouraging men. We've seen it in rape situations where men are bystanders.

Dr Eve, clinical sexologist

She says what men deem 'innocent' banter can become the sexual script and social language they use to relate to and advance on women - without consent.

Several men and women called in to debate with Dr Eve and host Eusebius Mckaiser:
