Mkhwebane cannot release 'state capture' report until court matter resolved

New Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane presented the institution's annual report to Parliament at a meeting with the Justice Portfolio Committee on Wednesday.

The report into state capture done by her predecessor Thuli Madonsela was handed to Mkhwebane on Monday.

EWN reporter Gaye Davis says Mkhwebane said she cannot release the report until the matter has been heard in court on 1 November.

President Jacob Zuma and Des van Rooyen interdicted the release of the report a day before Thuli Madonsela left office.

Davis says Mkhwebane will not divulge the contents of the report until the matter has been resolved.

She has confirmed that the report is safe in Advocate Fourie's office because there is no safe in her own office

Davis says that Mkhwebane was well received by all members and the Chairperson Mathole Motshekga told her that she will have no difficulties with the current committee, despite acrimonious relationship with Madonsela at times.
