Mkhwebane denies trash talking Madonsela (and doesn't want to be compared)

New Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has dismissed media reports that she has attacked her predecessor Thuli Madonsela.

This after the advocate appeared to "throw shade" Madonsela during a Parliamentary briefing on Wednesday.

She briefed Parliament’s Justice Portfolio Committee on her office’s annual report, which dealt mostly with Madonsela’s last year in office.

Mkhwebane has held her first press briefing as the Public Protector at her office in Pretoria, four days into her term in office.

She says everything that she did reveal in Parliament yesterday were answers to questions being asked by MPs, reports EWN's Gia Nicolaides.

She says it wasn't at all an attack on Thuli Madonsela as there have been some reports and suggestions. She says that there is no competition between the two.

Mkhwebane told the media she feels she is being unfairly compared to her predecessor, adding that she plans to do things differently during her seven-year term.

She says that there is no competition between the two (of them). Mkhwebane says she's got her own way of doing things.

She says her priority will be bringing the Public Protector's services to the grassroots level, and reducing the backlog of cases in her office.

Mkhwebane also stressed that she cannot comment on the state capture report as she has not yet seen it.
