National Treasury has released a statement saying they will not respond to comments made by Oakbay Investments about the affidavit presented to the court by Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan.
Treasury says it has no intention of conducting the case in the court of public opinion.
On Tuesday Gupta Family lawyer, Van Der Merwe Associates, released a statement on behalf of Ajay Gupta and Oakbay Investments in response to Gordhan's affidavit. It referred to Gordhan's affidavit and allegations as 'undiluted nonsense.'
Gordhan's affidavit revealed that R6.8 billion made in payments by Gupta brothers and firms they control have been reported to authorities as suspicious over the past four years.
They are saying basically, they are not going to respond. The Oakbay group needs to file their answering affidavits. They will respond to that in a public court.— Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter
They also said that the minister provided this information in his affidavit, and he did not interpret it. As we know that these suspicious were in the Financial Intelligence report, and the minister made this public by filing it in his report.— Gia Nicolaides, EWN reporter
