Growing up in an informal settlement in Nyanga, Sizwe Mxobo has long thought about the possibilities of transforming his community.
An urban planner by profession, Mxobo collaborates with communities to develop informal settlements.
Through his vision of allowing community members to design what their community is going to look like, Mxobo wants people to play an integral role in the design of their homes.
Mxobo's work in developing informal settlements has seen him become a recipient of the South African Planning Institute’s (SAPI) Young Planner Award.
This year, he was also selected for the Mandela Washington Fellowship, which is the flagship programme of United State President Barack Obama's flagship Young African Leadership Initiative (Yali).
