SA business draws line in the sand against political prosecutions

A group of business leaders have signed a pledge in which they are saying they are against corruption.

They stated that they are against politically motivated prosecutions, following the NPA's decision to charge Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan with fraud for approving former Sars commissioner Ivan Pillay's early retirement.

We wanted to send a strong signal as the business community to the country at large about the issues at hand and make it absolutely clear that we draw a line in the sand.

Colin Coleman, Managing Director of Goldman Sachs

Colin Coleman, Managing Director of Goldman Sachs says South Africa needs to defend its democracy and promote economic growth and job creation.

Coleman says this is not a quest for businesses to enter politics, but they are simply defending their ability to promote economic growth because in a few months the rating agencies will be reviewing South Africa.

We believe it is important to send a signal to those rating agencies that we are going to stand firm in defending those institutions which are so important.
