Technobyte: Barack Obama Wired guest editor for November

Motorola are back in South Africa with some really innovative mobile phones.

The Moto Z is made from military aircraft-grade aluminium and stainless steel and is just 5.2mm making it the world’s thinnest smartphone in the premium class.

It also features a 5.5” Quad HD AMOLED display, 4GB of RAM and comes in 32 GB or 64 GB of storage variants.

There is a 13MP camera at the back and a 5MP wide-angle front facing camera.

Battery life is at an impressive 30 hours! What makes this device unique are the Moto Mods. This modular phone has magnetic connectors behind the device that allow connecting these innovative mods by just sliding it onto the phone using very string magnet technology. They transform the phone into a projector with the Moto Insta-Share Projector, or a boom box with the JBL SoundBoost or a DSLR like camera with the Hasselblad TrueZoom camera.

This week I have been testing LG’s new 55 inch OLED TV.

When they say this is the future of television they are spot on. The colours that this 4K OLED television delivers are only believable when you experience it with your own eyes. It will literally transform your viewing experience. Just like a living organism, these pixels turn themselves on and off, generating perfect black where perfect colors come alive.

Because the backlighting panel is no longer needed, the design of the LG OLED TV looks stunning with minimal structuring. The sound of the LG OLED TV has been designed by harman/kardon giving you’re an amazing warm premium sound. If you are looking to upgrade this television should be on your radar. 4K is the future and prices have stabilised making them more affordable.

Wired has had some amazing guest editors over the years.

J.J. Abrams on magic, mysteries, and puzzles; Bill Gates on solving the world’s biggest problems; Christopher Nolan on space, time, and multiple dimensions; and, most recently, Serena Williams on equality in the digital age.

This November President Barack Obama will be Wired’s guest editor — the first time WIRED (or any other magazine) has been guest-edited by a sitting president.
