TUT not increasing fees for 90% of students in 2017

The Tshwane University of Technology and its Student Representative Council have signed a memorandum agreeing on the terms for next year's fees.

The university has announced a 0% fee increase for 2017, applicable to all of it's students.

Professor Lourens van Staden, Vice-Chancellor and Principal at TUT, says the government will make up for their shortfall for poor students. This excludes students whose parents are earning more than R600 000 per annum, says van Staden.

It is only about 10% of our students who make up the so-called self funded.

TUT is expecting the government to honour the announcement made on the 19th of September that the missing middle and students on NSFAS will be funded by government.

According to van Staden those students make up about 90% of TUT student population.
