Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande has strongly condemned the violence on university campuses nationwide, reports EWN's Natalie Malgas.
He mentioned that the violence is undermining the very legitimate grievances that the students have.— Natalie Malgas, EWN reporter
Nzimande delivered a statement in the National Assembly on the crisis in higher education funding.
Nzimande emphasised that NSFAS students and those with historic debt will be exempt from a free increase and won't have to make upfront payments for 2017 registration.
The minister also stressed the provision of free higher education for the poor – not everyone.
But DA Shadow Minister of Higher Education and Training Belinda Bozzoli says the ruling party has become enablers by under funding universities.
DA Bozzoli response to #BladeNzimande: ANC has shown little to no leadership in the university crisis, instead there's commission& task team— EWN Reporter (@ewnreporter) October 25, 2016
Meanwhile, an EFF MP says the party refuses to accept the notion that free education is impossible.
EFF's Floyd Shivambu: lets introduce education levy in all pension funds, the system is currently constipated & in effective.— EWN Reporter (@ewnreporter) October 25, 2016
