Motsoaledi intervenes and probe begins into death of 36 patients

Health minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, has ordered an investigation into the death of 36 psychiatric patients during a transfer from Life Healthcare Esisimeni Hospital to another facility in Gauteng.

Motsoaledi referred the matter to the health ombudsman after meeting with Gauteng health MEC Qedani Mahlangu on Wednesday.

Responding to allegations of negligence and wrong-doing from families of the deceased and mental health groups, Mahlangu said not everything was "hunky dory" with the patients as some were difficult to manage.
