Raymond Ackerman and his wife seen delivering self-made sarmies to firefighers

Well-known philanthropist and former Pick n Pay Chairperson Raymond Ackerman, whose house was also under threat of the runaway fires in Cape Town, was spotted on Wednesday carting around trays full of sandwiches they made in their own kitchen.

“I’m absolutely amazed by the community’s response,” says Ackerman. “It’s just wonderful! There are, however, some really sad stories as well.

“What we did was typical of so many people from all socio-economic groups,” says Ackerman.

“Everyone felt a deep gratitude towards the firefighters and the helicopter pilots who were flying blind in dense smoke.”
