Mogoeng warns judges not to seek 'prestige of socialising with politicians'

Chief Justice Mogoeng Mogoeng has called on the judicial system and individuals within to be strong and not seek 'the prestige of socialising with politicians'.

Mogoeng said 'when judges want to be seen on TV, mixing with politicians for the prestige, the prospects of good governance are gone'.

He was speaking at The Africa Chapter of the International Association of Refugee Law Judges (IARLJ) 10th Anniversary Conference at the University of Pretoria.

The conference is attended by more than a hundred eminent judges and refugee decision-makers from all corners of the African continent and the globe.

He is referring to judiciary as the custodians of constitutional democracy. That when it all fails, the last thing that will stand is the judiciary.
